I did the 5 year conversion when this was first available a few years back and only played 100-200 hours on GamePass. It would be a lot cheaper if I just bought the games instead of subscribed to the subscription service.
A few years back you could get 3 years of GPU for $80. A single new AAA is worth that. Starfield alone is $90+. I can see someone not getting their money's worth if they only play cheap indies. But it would be really hard not to get your worth in 5 years...

I’m more waiting for the flight sim 2024 to come out before buying it since it seems if you buy flight sim 2020 you have to pay again for flight sim 2024.. add on are compatible but they said it’s a separate stand alone game no point of paying twice atm
Right, I forgot about Flight Sim 2024. I imagine that'll show up at the Xbox showcase on June 9, or shortly after. Possibly with a release date, if it's actually coming this year.

If you're really anxious to play Flight Sim before the new one, that might be a good case for a month of Game Pass. Rather than pay $50-90 for a (soon-to-be-deprecated?) game, pay $13-ish or less for a month of subscription time. Try Flight Sim '20, see how well your PC runs it. (I think it's a fairly demanding game--especially on the CPU side, and possibly the quality of your internet connection.)
Maybe poke at some other games while you're at it. Another vehicular exploration game like No Man's Sky or Forza Horizon might be up your alley. Or something smaller and totally unrelated, like Frog Detective, Cocoon, The Walking Dead series, Super Mega Baseball, PowerWash Simulator, Firewatch, or Superhot. There's like 450 games in there; who knows? Maybe (heaven forbid) you'd get really into League of Legends, and appreciate having all the heroes unlocked.

Bought 12 month keys off CDKeys for ~$61 no tax each, and bought 1 month Ultimate off Eneba for ~$14 no tax, was able to successfully use this trick. Full cost is slightly below $200 CAD for 24 months + 1 + 1 (last one is YMMW, I was offered it on Microsoft's website when I was in the process of converting to Ultimate using a code, if I turn on recurring billing. I did that and got the month free applied to account automatically, and immediately went and turned off recurring billing.) Now I'm set until July 2026.

My Microsoft account? No I’ve had GamePass Ultimate before and I’ve let it expire. If you’re buying GamePass Ultimate off Eneba, make sure it’s NOT the one that’s titled No Stacking. Get the one that’s about a buck more which allows stacking.

For those like me already suscribed, make sure to let your susbscription expire.
The ratio when you already are a member is 3:1, so 12 months = 4 months GPU
So the 3:2 ratio is much better.

I feel like a broken record, but......
12-month core cards are indeed terrible conversion value on an existing subscription. However, 3-month cards are excellent value if you can get them at a good price, giving you 50-52 days. That's almost 3:2, but there's a bonus in that if you keep going on an existing subscription, you don't ever have to pay the full month of ultimate to initiate the conversion.
And then, consider the value of MS rewards points to get the 3-month core cards for 'free'.
