One of the luxuries in my life that I just couldn’t give up is visiting salons for my monthly appointment of manicure (because I can’t paint my nails myself ‘coz I’m that stupid), pedicure (because I tend to murder my big toe as I usually over cut the nails on it and I have too much dry skin underneath which only an expert could remove), eyebrow shaping (because as many of you know, I’m one hairy woman and my brows could grow into a bushy unibrow which needs to be shaped and trimmed by an expert as well), upper lip waxing (again, I’m a hairy woman) and last but definitely not the least – brazillian waxing (for reasons I have already stated twice). Well, I don’t know about you but I want to keep it neat and tidy “down there” because really, it’s a wild amazon in that hemisphere if I don’t do it. (Too much information, sorry if I have said that. But let’s all be an adult here.) To cut back on the expenses, I gave up leg waxing and settled for shaving once a week instead which isn’t the smartest idea but hey! I’m a penniless creature and sometimes, some DIY things couldn’t hurt ya! And yes, I said ONCE A WEEK because I noticed that if shave less, the hair which grows back isn’t as thick as if you shave everyday. Having said that, you’ll just have to deal with two hairy legs of mine if I happen to go to the beach during that day of the week which isn’t the “shaving schedule” (which is normally on a Thursday). I also gave up underarm waxing for budgetary purposes and opted for plucking which I do everyday. I guess I can just shoot myself now for divulging those shameful information about me and to make matters worst, my mother will be able to read this post and only God knows when she will finally disown me for having such a big mouth. (Helllo mommy! Yes, I still do call her mommy so beat it!)
Anyway, I used to go to Dragonfly Spa at Burjuman Mall until it closed down some few months back. So for a moment there, I was out of my wits searching for a new spa which will be able to give me the same great service and a good value for my hard-earned money. I went to the salon across my building and just by checking the surroundings of the establishment I sure, as hell, won’t let them touch me “down there”. I want a clean and sanitary place because it’s not just any part of your body, it is THE part of your body that must be taken well-cared of by sanitized hands and equipments. I logged on to our company’s staff website where they have a humongous list of the establishments all over Dubai where we could avail a discount and stumbled upon The Nail Spa at Dubai Mall. I have considered it instantly mainly because it’s just one bus ride away from my house which would be a great advantage for me if I would be their newest “loyal client” plus there’s also a Metro station at Dubai Mall and the feeder bus taking you from the metro to the mall itself stops at the very side of the mall where the shop is located (I hate walking around a mall and trust me, if you hate that then the monstrous size of Dubai Mall will be hell for you.) So off I went for the first time and booked my brazilian waxing and I was very pleased to see a familiar face at the reception of the shop as she used to work at Dragonfly too.
The lady who did my waxing was named Usha, an Indian girl who looked more like Chinese to me, seriously. She said she’s from the northern part of India which explains her non-Indian looks. Anyway, she is EXCEPTIONAL! Her hands were gloved during the whole process and she was very patient with me (even if I kicked her several times during the procedure) and she’s got this way of distracting me from the pain that I’m just about to endure. They do not double dip as well which is very important when doing a brazilian wax. The wooden spatula will be thrown into the trash bin after the first use so I think, she must have used about 50 wooden spatulas by just doing my waxing. They should charge me more I believe. So I was very pleased with the first visit and I went there again to book a manicure and pedicure.
I want my nails to be cut short and I mean really really short as I am one of the lucky few who’s nails grow an inch every month. Ok, maybe I’m exaggerating but it irritates the crap out of me because it’s really hard to type on a keyboard with long nails. So this is what I want for my nails to be:
fingertips and nails of the same level
And as I have said, I’m one of the lucky few to have been blessed by really good nails which I think could make up for the fact that I’ve got small boobs. 🙂 In fact, my nails are so great that I once had a Russian passenger who suddenly grabbed my hands while I was booking a flight for her to Moscow to inspect if it was real or an extension.
You may have the boobs but I got the nails BIATCH!
The nail polish that they use doesn’t make my nails brittle compared to the other salon’s brand which needs to be changed every week if you don’t want to end up with an uneven and chipped nails. I definitely loved the lady who did my pedicure (sadly, I forgot her name) as she’s got the lightest hands in the world and I didn’t feel a thing when she was removing the dry skin underneath my big toe nail. She told me to buy an almond oil that I should put on my nails to lessen/prevent dry skin from happening – to which I gladly bought from her (AED35.00).
I don’t pay more than AED175 for all the things that I do there as our staff discount is 25% during weekdays and 15% on weekends with free facial (for Dubai Mall and Aviation College branch) and free back massage (for Mercato and Ibn Batuta branch) which you must book along with the service you want to do for your appointment. The place gets packed most of the time so it is always better to make a reservation prior to going to the place to avoid disappointments.
