On January 17th and 30th, thePBR Tennessee staffhosted the2022 TN Preseason All State Showcaseat Showtime Sports Academy in Franklin, TN. The premium invite only event featured over 90 of the top prospects from all high school classes. Today, we'll continue our post-event coverage focusing on the captured data from Blast Motion Sensors during BP rounds. We'll be analyzing swing metrics such as bat speed, hand speed, and rotational acceleration, which all play key roles in player development as they rise the ranks.

Previously, we publishedQuick Hits: Session One and Quick Hits: Session Twohighlighting the standout performances. We also rolled out aStatistical Analysis, bringing you a quick statistical analysis of those that participated in the event featuring leaderboards of key metrics. We then dove deep into the data, looking at the pitch metrics and batted ball numbers from this event inside ourTrackMan Filespiece.

Peak Hand Speed:The observed maximum speed as measured on the handle of the bat (measured six inches from the knob of the bat). Peak Hand Speed will occur prior to the moment of impact, very close to the commit time in the swing when the wrists unhinge.

Bat Speed:The observed speed of the sweet spot of the bat at impact. The sweet spot of the bat is measured six inches from the tip of the bat. Bat speed has a directcorrelation to exitvelocity: the more bat speed the better the ceiling for exit velocity. From a prospect outlook, bat speed is the floor of the hitting profile.

Body Rotation:A swing that has the appropriate relative contributions of body and bat rotations is an efficient and powerful swing that maintains proper sequencing. An efficient baseball swing is one in which the body creates the initial movements, which is then transferred to the arms and out to the bat, thereby maximizing Bat Speed through this proximal-to-distal kinematic sequencing movement pattern. From a prospect outlook, rotational acceleration is the ceiling of the hitting profile. Higher rotational acceleration allows players to make later decisions on pitches, which is an emphasis as they rise levels into tougher pitching.
