We are looking at Sacred Hoops 16U Kost in this Team Profile article, they are coming off a nice 3-1 weekend in Sioux City! Sacred Hoops is averaging 60 ppg and holding opponents to around 45 ppg. They have talented shooters and some forces in the paint. This is an underrated squad that you need to hear about!

This Sacred Hoops squad is looking tough and playing well this club season!

Hosea Kost is the head coach of this Sacred Hoops 16U team, they have played in 3 tournaments this season and have 3 tourneys remaining.

The season so far has been great. We have three tournaments under our belts and this past weekend was the first one where we had a full and healthy roster on the bench. Through each tournament, we’ve played unselfish, team basketball that is relentless on defense, pushes in transition and is patient to find the best shot. A highlight for this squad was our weekend in the Prep Hoops Battle at the Lakes tournament. We had a group of 5 and managed to end the weekend 2-2 with our loses (both games by 4 points) coming from a game where we were playing 4v5 for the final two minutes and another game where, despite losing, we can back from down 18 to force the game into OT.As a team, they are a fun group to be around and watch play. They can all score and defend at each level of the court. I know that they are always looking to get team wins over individual highlights.Hosea Kost

Q&A with Hosea Kost

PHD: Can you tell me about your coaching/basketball background?

I was a student assistant coach at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I worked under Coach Tom Billeter with the men’s basketball team for three seasons and assisted with practice, game film, equipment management and in-game stats on the bench.

PHD: Why are you excited to coach this group?

I’m excited to coach this group because they are hungry to win and develop as players and people in general. They play with a chip on their shoulder and never let any score change how they think of themselves. They are a great group of kids who are receptive and coachable; qualities that anyone wants from someone on their team.

PHD: What will be the strengths of your team?

Our primary strengths are in our defensive ability to play tough on the ball and in our offensive ability to play selfless basketball. We are looking to support each other on the court in the gaps on defense and in the passing lanes on offense to generate easy points.

PHD: What style of basketballwill you play?

We play a controlled style of basketball on offense and work to make sure that the other team doesn’t try to speed us up and force silly mistakes. We take the open shots and work to get to the charity when we can. On defense, we are prepared to throw any type of defense on the floor and switch to another on the next possession to keep the opponent guessing.

PHD: What will your team “hang your hat on”?

We hang our hat on the team’s cohesion and toughness. These kids work hard at their schools and on the weekends with our program to become better. I push them and support them in everything. This has created a culture where the players want to be pushed and tested further to better themselves.

PHD: Who do you predict will be your top defender?

I predict that our best defender will be Kyler Carlson Kyler Carlson 5'10" | CG Estelline-Hendricks | 2026 State SD or Joshua Moberg Joshua Moberg 6'0" | PG Deubrook | 2026 SD . Both guys are shorter guards but have quick feet and play smart when on the ball to avoid fouls. Off the ball, they are active in the gaps and communicate with their teammates.

PHD: What event/tournament are you looking forward to the most?

We are looking forward to the Hardwood Classic in Kansas City, Missouri. It’s an opportunity for these boys to play at a different tournament than most and compete against teams from across the country. Like I mentioned in the previous question, these boys are looking to become tougher and they know that to do that, they need to play tough teams.

PHD: Do you see your team play man, zone, or a mix?

Our team plays a lot of man at first but once we understand how the opponent will play, we will utilize a mix of both man and zone principles. Our team is filled with smart kids and length to switch between man and zone with ease.

PHD: Will your team get together and practice?

We get together to practice for about 2 hours every weekend from mid-March to the end of July.

PHD: What are your goals for this AAU/grassroots season?

My goal this season is to support the group of boys I’m coaching. Many of them have aspirations to play at the collegiate level and I want to do what I can as their coach to put them in great positions that showcase their strengths and personalities. Another goal that I have is for myself and learning how I can continue to improve as a coach and mentor.

PHD: Who are some of your top shooters?

Holden Wollmann Holden Wollmann 6'0" | PG Bridgewater-Emery | 2026 State SD , Kyler Carlson Kyler Carlson 5'10" | CG Estelline-Hendricks | 2026 State SD and Braydyn Morrison Braydyn Morrison 6'0" | CG Viborg-Hurley | 2026 State SD are our top three shooters. They have limitless range and possess a quick first-step to push them past defenders and finish strong at the rim.

Best of luck over the summer months!
